A widget is a piece of content from one website that can be embedded in other sites on the Internet. If you have a message to spread, and people who you are in a conversation with, a widget allows you to deepen your engagement with them, delight them with what you have to offer, and simultaneously influence their friends -- all without offending them with nasty push-marketing tactics like spam or the stupendous costs spent on ads your fans are blind to anyway.

Previously, developing widgets was a complicated process, involving high levels of skill with client and server programming, design, and a bit of that special marketing insight. Widget Bakery makes it all as easy as slicing bread -- you have something your customers want, you click a few buttons to package it up with our service, and your fans can spread it through the Internet faster than you can say copy/paste. It's so easy, even the Baker can do it.

The bread is still in the oven

Widget Bakery is currently in development, scheduled to be released to the public in late July, 2008. Over the next few days, after the Baker manages to clean the dough off his hands, we'll release a few convenient ways for you to keep abreast of its progress, if you're interested. And you can always just check this space.

What Is A Widget?

Are you sure you haven't read that text in the sidebar yet? It might answer this question better. Aliquam scelerisque aliquet nisl. Quisque non mauris id tortor rutrum accumsan. Mauris dapibus. Ut varius aliquam neque. Duis lorem tortor, rutrum quis, pharetra id, placerat vitae, massa. Aenean volutpat pede sed lectus. Sed ultricies risus ac massa. Morbi vel sem porttitor tortor adipiscing varius. Cras ullamcorper porta dui. Etiam leo. Aliquam tincidunt ipsum sit amet enim. Curabitur accumsan nibh quis eros. Praesent mattis placerat erat. Etiam et nisi ac magna tempus auctor.

Who is the Baker?

Patrick McKenzie is still stuck in the kitchen, assisted by a few flour-stained wretches who wish to remain anonymous for the time being. When not working on getting a rise out of Rails and serving bread with a side of Java, he enjoys Japan's best contribution to the world of baked goods: maple melon bread. It sounds outrageous, and tastes sublime.
